Richard Trefiak

Obituary of Richard Alexander Trefiak

Richard (Dick) Trefiak  passed away with family by his side at St. Ann’s, on November 8th, 2022 after a long, hard fought battle with Frontotemporal Dementia.

Dick was born in Lestock on March 15, 1946 to Dick and Minnie Trefiak. He was the second oldest of 5 children. He grew up enjoying the outdoors and sports, especially hockey, curling and fishing. He had many careers, starting with farming and then moving the family to Saskatoon, Meadow Lake and back where he had various jobs until buying and running his own company, A1 Steam Carpet Cleaners. He sold it in 1989, taking some time off before finding his true passion, long haul professional truck driving. Dick drove for 20 plus years, the majority of the time spent with Q Line Trucking. Dick enjoyed the freedom of the road and would say his Dad always road with him. On the road his fellow truckers knew him as Dr. Dick and Grandpa Dick.

Dick was a man of strong faith, a devoted husband, father,  grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His laugh could fill a room and his antics, jokes and stories were a constant source of entertainment and usually contagious. Dick loved life, good food, good drink (especially vodka), dancing, celebrations and most of all his family. He was big in stature and presence, but so was his capacity to love and laugh. The door was always open at Dick and Madeline’s; together they welcomed and treated everyone like family.

He leaves to mourn his devoted and loving wife, Madeline; 3 children, Pam (Sid), Kent and Trevor (Breann); grandchildren, Payton (Adam) and Zen; siblings, Pat (Glen), Bill (Diane), Harold (Elaine) and Thad (Marianne); and siblings-in-law, Alf (Linda), Donnie (Bernice), Martin (Shirley), Ellen, Janice (Pat), Raymond, Wilbert (Gailene), Alvin (Shona) and Monica; and many family members and friends.

Dick was predeceased by his parents, Dick and Minnie; parents-in-law, Philip and Elsa; best friends and in-laws, Dave and Sandy; and brothers-in-law, Philip, Brad and Richard.

A Celebration of Dick’s Life will take place on Saturday, November 26th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church (812 Preston Avenue, Saskatoon, SK.).
