On Monday, January 16th, 2023 Ronald Joseph Thelander, beloved husband of 67 years to Marjorie, passed away peacefully at the age of 90, surrounded by family. Ron joins in heaven his parents; Fritz and Marie Thelander, his sister; Anita Grosse and his daughter; Anne Cumming. He is survived by his loving wife Marjorie (Hounsell) Thelander, their children; Lillian (George) McCauley, Peter Thelander, Mary (Vince) Blom, Mario Thelander, Ronalee (Robin) Fleming, Michael (Glenda) Thelander, his brother; John Thelander and sister-in-law; Kathryn Burke. As well Ron will be deeply missed by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ron was a lifelong scholar who had many occupations throughout his life. Before settling into his final career as Principal of St. Gabriels school in Biggar, Sk. he was assistant jail Warden in Regina and then worked with the National Film Board in London, ON before moving to Toronto in the early 60’s to build the audio/visual department for the Toronto school board. In 1972, Ron and Marge returned to Saskatoon and owned and operated The Caboose Restaurant and Living Lighting. This was more than a full time job for their growing family so they closed the business’, Ron went back to school to complete his Masters of Education while living in Asquith with Anne and her family. Thus beginning his many years as Principal. Upon retirement in 1994, Ron and Marge made their permanent home in Saskatoon in order to be close to their children and grandchildren.  

Ron was ever the talented musician. Playing many instruments, though his most cherished was the violin.  Ron spent many years playing violin with the Saskatoon Symphony.

Prayers will be held Thursday, Jan. 19th at 7pm at Saskatoon Funeral Home. Funeral Service will take place at St. Philips Neri Friday, Jan. 20th at 11 am.
