Jeanette began volunteering with Global Gathering Place (GGP) in 2013 as an English instructor for our Seniors Class. As an octogenarian herself, she treated our students as peers and developed close relationships with many of them. As her mobility became more limited, she continued to find creative ways to continue supporting newcomers to Canada in their settlement journey. Even once the pandemic hit, Jeanette learned how to use Zoom and continued connecting with our clients virtually.
One of Jeanette’s specialties was helping English language learners with academic writing and supporting them through the completion of their master's and PhD programs. Her extensive travel and knowledge of world events helped her to build quick rapport with our staff and clients. Throughout the years, Jeanette welcomed many clients into her home, forming lasting friendships. She supported so many of our newcomer clients to enhance their language skills and gain a sense of belonging by creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment.
She will be missed by so many.
