It is with immense sadness we announce that the death of our beloved Colleen Moroney occurred at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

Colleen was born in Regina, SK on December 24, 1936 as the only child of Eber and Loretta (Manion) Scharf who she loved dearly. She was raised in Humboldt, SK and attended the Ursuline Academy in Bruno for four years prior to enrollment at the Teacher’s College. She taught in Humboldt, Estevan and Calgary.

Colleen married Gerard Moroney in 1958 and they lived briefly in Calgary prior to relocating to Humboldt in 1959. They loved life in Humboldt and became very involved in the community while raising their children Cathie, Sheila and Pat.  Following their retirement in 1992 they relocated to Saskatoon. They loved to travel and visit locations across Canada including many trips to the Maritimes especially Newfoundland. Colleen and Gerry also spent many winters in California and Victoria. As an only child Colleen married into a large extended family and instantly had fourteen  new brothers and sisters and over 100 nieces and nephews. In her many trips to Ireland where Gerry was raised she was enthused and engaged  in meeting and getting to know the entire family. She was so loved by all her new relatives. She  enjoyed  the relationship with her nieces and nephews. Colleen was an avid reader and loved entertaining. Saturday night was always set aside as  ‘date night’ although an exact reservation time of arrival did not exist for Colleen.

Colleen is survived by her loving, husband Gerry, and their children; daughter Cathie her husband Thomas Gradin of Vancouver and his family, daughter  Sheila and her husband John Hyshka  and son Patrick of Saskatoon, sisters-in-law Patricia Grehan,  Alice (Sean) McKone, Agnes, Bernie and Sheila Moroney of Ireland, Joy Grehan of Vancouver, Helen Moroney of Victoria, Sally Moroney of Boston, Jane Moroney of Edmonton, and brother-in-law Fr. Patrick Moroney OMI of Australia.

She was predeceased by her parents Eber and Loretta Scharf, parents-in-law Josephine and Thomas Moroney and members of the Manion and Scharf families; brothers-in-law Anto, Thomas, Michael, Sean, Seamus, Vincent, Anthony, Kevin, Danny, Tony, Tommy, Stan and sisters-in-law Elizabeth, Marie, Philomena and Ann.

We will be  forever grateful to Dr. Werner Gericke, Dr. Jodi Spelay and the late Dr. Ed Nykiforuk  for their wonderful care of Colleen. A very big thankyou to all the amazing St. Paul’s Hospital medical and support staff.

Donations may be made in memory of Colleen to the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation and the Ronald MacDonald House.
