Just few weeks ago I discovered Dr. Schubert was gone. Dr Schubert was my gynea for my precious twins ( pictures attached) . When I told him of my worries after 7 years of waiting, Dr Schubert was so kind and educative during my visits. He gave every detail that I needed to stay calm and was proactive during my delivery to ensure we did not lose our beautiful daughter. It broke my heart when I heard about his passing. He had gone for 9 months and I didn't know. I feel so sad! Death is so cruel. Rest on Dr. Schubert. I pray his lovely family is comforted through his legacy. - Bunmi Omeke.

My sweeties Dr.Pollock.I’m so deeply sorry for your loss. You have been a wonderful person and I know how much you are suffering right now. There is nothing worse than losing someone so special like your husband. When I saw you I thought of your pain and I knew that nothing what I was to say will help you heal. I never knew that Dr. Schubert was your husband. He was my doctor as well. So I was seeing you as well as him. What a tragedy that is losing this beautiful soul. I can’t imagine the grief and pain you are going through right now. You and your husband are the most caring and loving people. Thank you for being so kind and caring. I hope I will see you soon. If you need anything let me know.

Patrice and family,
Dr. Schubert saved my baby’s and my life last summer. Had he not been there, we wouldn’t have our child. I can’t possibly put into words the impact he had in our life in such a short time. In fact, he told me a joke at follow-up clinic that I still tell today. He was a wonderful doctor and a kind person, and I was looking forward to being in his care if we expanded our family. I know that no words can possibly heal your pain, but I want you to know I read Dr. Schubert’s story and promised myself that I will do what we can to ensure our little Roman lives as fulfilling of a life as Matt’s. May memories bring you peace.

I meet Matt as a fellow consultant for the Saskatchewan College of Physicians and Surgeons. We would visit clinics in Saskatoon and Regina. Often he would drive us to Regina and back and he would entertain us by telling stories of past and current times of family and work. Both of which he loved dearly. On one drive he proudly outed himself as a nerd. To which he said he drove the inside of all the curves on highway 11 and found it was 10 km shorter than taking the marked lane. All said with that wonderful smile of his. His insight, humour and intelligence will be missed by his fellow inspection team members. Our condolences to his family on his sudden passing.

I am so shocked by this news and have all of you in my thoughts and prayers. I worked with Dr. Schubert at WHC. He cared so much for his patients and was so good to the staff. He was very particular about his procedure set ups and how things were opened up and plugged into equipment. I liked that about him, he had a certain way of doing things and we honoured him with remembering his likes and having things ready his way. Conversation was always interesting with his incredible knowledge on many topics. His family was his EVERYTHING ♥️. He was very proud of you all often talking of your many adventures together with staff. You were all his pride and joy. He loved his work but his family was his joy.

Dear Patrice,
I was so sad to hear last week about Matt. He was always one of my favourite people at work. It was such a privilege to get to know him, first as a transplant resident from Alberta, and later on as staff OB colleagues. He even hung out with me despite my love for the Stampeders!!
He was always supportive of me as a student, and willing to have my back at work as staff. It was usually going to be a fun day in the OR when we were booked there together. You knew there were going to be some bad jokes and jousting about football scores.
He was willing to come help out with my never ending requests for UGME teaching and happy to get paid with a sandwich.
I can only imagine how quiet it must seem at home now. The world feels a little emptier. I am thinking of you and your family and sending my love.

42 years of nursing.
He was always willing to listen, to offer comfort, advice, share a joke or tell you who’s birthday it was that day.
He had an incredible memory and a great sense of humour.

Dear Patrice, Annie, and Alexander,
It was with great sadness that we got the news today of dear Matt's unexpected passing. We are still trying to come to terms with it. Our heartfelt condolences. It seems such a short while ago that I stayed with you during a CFUW Conference in Saskatoon and you were just finishing medical school and getting married. Another time, when I was with you and got a terrible tooth ache and Matt insisted on getting me those wonderful little red pills that took away the pain miraculously within minutes. I kept that bottle for many years, and they took care of most of my rare pains—a great blessing. Unfortunately, I could not get them in Ontario when I ran out. And how grateful we were when he visited us, and he telephoned his friend, the oncologist who treated aunt Marie, to get answers to all her questions. We enjoyed our great scholarly discussions with him on so many subject. The time on earth of such a wonderful man was just far too short. God only knows, dear Patrice, why you had to lose the two great physicians in your life, your father and your husband, both the same way and both far to young to be taken from you. Our hearts and minds are with you at this very sad moment, dear Patrice, Annie, and Alexander. May dear Matt rest in peace. Uncle Peter and Kati

Dr. Schubert will forever be extremely important to me and the reason I am able to work each day doing what I love. He is the sole reason I got a position in residency, as he took a chance on me as an IMG while he was PD of the residency program. I will never forget the call I got when he called to tell me he selected me for the position. I remember him making a joke about my having to get off the golf course (where I was when he called) to pack to move to cold and snowy SK and how it was a good thing I was starting when the weather was nice and I could see the nice courses near Saskatoon. I will always be grateful at how he took me under his wing in times of failure, and helped me develop skills to make me the physician I am today. He also made me realize my love for teaching and the administrative medicine or positions available outside of clinical experience. I'll remember dinner in Quebec City at ICRE and so many other events. Journal club at his beautiful home. He was one reason I was sad to leave Saskatoon. In essence he truly helped shape me as a trainee and a person. I am not sure I made him proud, but I hope he knew how greatly he postively affected my life -- just as I am sure I am not alone in this sentiment. I remember little quirky smiles, jokes, random facts, and the time we high tailed it to the food truck for lunch for him to be sure I tasted the best foodtruck meatloaf grilled cheese sandwich. Even with our last conversation it was the usual banter. I am deeply saddened for the loss will be felt in Medicine, training OBGYNs and most of all the enormous loss for his family. I know how much he loved his family. My deepest condolences to you all but please know the impact he has had on so many, he made his short time so worth while.

My deepest sympathies to your family.
He was one of my most supportive teachers during my residency and one of the kindest most considerate champions of
rural family physicians. He was a wonderful man who listened carefully to his patients, had a wonderful sense of humour and wit, and treated everyone respectfully. He provided tremendous service to the community of Humboldt for so many years. He was revered by myself and our community.

My sincere condolences to all of Dr. Schubert’s family, friends, and colleagues. I have had the pleasure of having him as my OB for all three of my pregnancies and am sad that he won’t get the chance to meet our newest addition. He will be greatly missed.

Dr Pollock and family,
I am so very saddened to hear of Dr Schuberts passing. He touched my life in a very meaningful way by bringing my daughter to my life, without him I would never have had the joy of being a mother. He has been such a wonderful and caring Dr for over 30 years now and I will miss his caring and compassionate manner and his much trusted medical guidance. Sending you a big hug, he will never be forgotten…

My sympathy with regards to the loss of Matt. I have known him since he was a medical student.
I admired his honesty, kindness and his sense of duty; he was always ready to help with clinical and academic requests.
We have lost one of the great ones.
If I can help in anyway let me know.

Dr Matt Schubert, my boss of 23 years.
Such an extraordinary quirky but fun personality…
The lunchroom at Wall Street was always better with his childhood stories and charisma….
I even had him singing an Irish ditty one day!!
He was always so concerned about the happiness of “the office”
Wall Street will never be the same!
Devoted family man, boss, OBGYN!
RIP Matt
