Obituary of David Earl Brandner

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Earl Brandner on April 3, 2023 at St. Paul’s hospital in Saskatoon, SK. By his side were his wife, Rita, and daughter, Nicole.

Also mourning Dave’s death and celebrating his life are son-in-law, Sean Hildebrandt; grandsons, Grayson and Ryker; siblings, Carol (Dave) McKay, Steve (Marion) Brandner and Ken (Carolyn) Brandner; in-laws, Ken (Kathy) Nicholls; as well numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Dave lived quite an adventurous life. He didn’t talk about it often but even after all these years we were still being entertained, and occasionally shocked, by the stories of his antics. Among our favourites of these stories were those about all of his cars. Sometimes it seemed like there wasn’t one he didn’t own or know something about. In the early 80’s, work brought him to Saskatoon where he met Rita. After a brief return to Vancouver, and the birth of their daughter, Nicole, the lure of blue skies and sunshine brought them home to Saskatoon.

Dave had a lifelong interest in music, which he shared passionately with those close to him. In his younger years, there were many late nights spent with his guitar and a rum and coke or two. When he set his mind to something, he’d do it and do it well. From art to photography to woodwork, Dave was never bored and has left his family with many special keepsakes and memories. He carried that mindset into all aspects of his life and imparted this advice to those around him whether they wanted to hear it or not. He did his best to live a life of no regrets.

Dave’s quick wit and sense of humour, although sometimes too smart for some, would often get the whole room either laughing or shaking their heads. He could be polarizing but he was always Dave and we will miss him very much.

We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those involved in his care over the years as well as the palliative care team at St. Paul’s for their guidance, compassion and support.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

“Although we may not see you, forever shall you be in our hearts.” -Love Grayson
