Obituary of Kenneth Dean Schmautz

It is with deep sorrow that the Schmautz family announces the untimely passing of Kenneth Dean Schmautz on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023. Dean was a resident of Preston Extendicare after suffering a debilitating stroke and subsequent health complications. Dean is survived by his stepmother, Linda; brothers, Dwayne (Elaine), Todd (Karen), Justin (Terri), and Jay; sons, Kurtis (Joanne) and Brett (Nicole), as well as many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Dean was predeceased and reunited with his parents, Kenneth and Mona; and his brother, Arnie.

Dean lived life to the fullest. He was compassionate, very energetic, and possessed a knack for reading people. He loved to have coffee with friends, meet new people, and enjoyed discussing current events and subjects of interest. He truly enjoyed sports. He played in many baseball and hockey leagues and enjoyed the occasional game of golf. Dean’s passion for sports turned to bodybuilding, which he entered into many competitions. Through this dedication, Dean found himself competing at a provincial level when he entered the Mr. Saskatchewan Competition.

Dean will be dearly missed by many friends and family.

We extend a special thanks to all the staff at Preston Extendicare for making the last few months of Dean’s life the best it could be for him. They treated him like family, providing love and compassion. They admired Dean’s strength, character, and resilience.

In remembrance of Dean, a Memorial Service will be held in the spring of 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
