Larry Korchinski

Obituary of Larry Michael Korchinski

Our beloved Larry – devoted son, tender husband, doting and proud father, caring brother, respected uncle, welcoming brother-in-law, reliable colleague and friend, and loyal teammate has passed from this world into the next. We are crushed by our loss. We will remember him for all these essential qualities.

From an early age, Larry showed promise to be an elite athlete – in particular a hockey player.  At a young age, he came to the attention of scouts and was drafted to the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League, where he played for a number of years. Later, he played with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. By this time, he was better known by his nick name, Korch. As was his way during his time riding team buses, he did not rest or cavort with his teammates, but instead studied for his university courses, and continued this practice as a law student. He never stopped playing hockey with his friends.

Of course, he excelled at his law studies and upon graduation was offered a position with a prominent oil and gas firm in Calgary. He left this firm and returned to Saskatoon where he eventually joined the Cameco legal department, remaining there until his passing. He took a lot of pride in his work as a lawyer and loved his job.

Larry’s father Bonace died in November 2007. Larry, always the dutiful son, assumed the care of his mother, Anne – with the assistance of his siblings – doing numerous tasks for her, both large and small, throughout the years.

Most importantly, Larry loved his wife, Stacey, and their children, Kevin and Kate. He was an excellent father and husband. He loved spending time watching his children play sports, on family holidays, and watching his children pursue their dreams and passions. He loved spending time at the cabin with his family and going on walks with his goldendoodle, Indie. He loved his family more than anything in the world and would do anything for his family.

Larry is predeceased by his father Bonace.  He is survived by his mother Anne, his loving wife Stacey (Patenaude), his son Kevin and his daughter Kate, his siblings Robert, Karen, Brenda, and Brian, numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws, cousins, former teammates, and friends.
