It is with deep sadness that our family has to say goodbye to our dearest mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and Godmother Zoila Elena (Gomez de) Lahey. Mom knew that she was ready to be with God before she had a serious stroke on Christmas day of 2019. She prayed that she would not live long if she was fully dependant on everyone for her care needs . She left this world for her heavenly home on December 16, 2023 in the early hours of the morning. She was 95 when she passed. We always wish for another month, week or day, but sadly, that was not granted to us. We feel quite certain that she was greeted by dad, Gerard Lahey; her brothers Victor, Armando, Alberto, sister Esther; and dear friends who passed before her. She is survived by her daughter Carol and grandson Michael; siblings Magda Pagano, Amelia Carpio (Manuel), Dehlia Woodall and Jorge Gomez; many nieces and nephews and extended family throughout Canada, the U.S., Europe and Australia. Mom had a sense of adventure, enjoyed the beauty in things and had a deep love for helping others, especially those with mental health issues. She strived to have some important purpose to her life. She loved to volunteer, was always busy with handiwork such as knitting, crocheting and often was seendrawing or painting with watercolors. She volunteered often at Sister Angela’s care home and helped the Saint Anne’s CWL ladies with funeral lunches. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandson Michael and daughter Carol; with Beta sigma phi sisters and various friends. She touched many lives and everyone knew what a selfless, kind, patient, hard working, devout , confident and persistent woman that she was. Life will not be the same without her kissing the hand of a nursing assistant or visitor even during her last days when she could no longer communicate.

The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm on Saturday January 13th, 2024 at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, 217 Lenore Drive, in Saskatoon. A Rite of Committal to be held at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery. Services will be livestreamed.
