Obituary of James Robert Power

The family of Bob Power is saddened to announce his passing on October 2, 2016 at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife Dawn; son Gordon (Michelle), Chicago; daughters Kelly Chambers, Calgary; Leanne Roach (Jeff), Lethbridge; granddaughters Chelsea, Nicole, and Samantha Roach, Edmonton; grandsons Brady Chambers (great-grandson Kolby), Calgary; and Kyler Chambers, Fernie. Bob is also survived by sister Betty Power, Saskatoon; brothers-in-law Ken Booth, Wayne (Audrey) McRorie, several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister Eleanor Booth. Bob attended Bedford Road Collegiate (Class of '50) and the reunions that followed. He was a founding member of the Hub City Curling Club. His original team with Don Kemp, Doug Cole, and Merv Houghton curled together for more than 40 years. Bob was first employed at Walter Woods where he met and married the beautiful red-head, Dawn, his wife and loving companion of 59 years. Bob started his career in Saskatoon as an Air Traffic Controller. After six years in Winnipeg he returned as a Supervisor. He retired in 1991 after 35 years with Transport Canada. Camping across Canada, romantic dinners, building a canoe and family cabin, wood carving, and painting were his favorite activities. He was a member of Parkview Presbyterian and most recently a member of McClure United Church where he enjoyed volunteering. Donations to Sherbrooke Community Centre in lieu of flowers would be greatly appreciated; their staff went above and beyond to care for Bob and his family.

Funeral

Bob’s Celebration of Life Service, officiated by Rev. Ron McConnell will take place in the Chapel at Sherbrooke Community Centre, 401 Acadia Dr, Saskatoon, on Friday, Oct. 14 at 2:00 pm, coffee and fellowship to follow.
