Obituary of Doris Koyl

Doris Koyl (Moodycliffe) This petite, loyal, gracious, energetic, independent woman, died peacefully at Luther Care Home on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the age of 102 years. Doris is survived by her sister, Edith Thompson (Edmonton), her son Gavin, daughter-in-law Pat, daughter Mary Lee (Greg), grandsons, Andrew Morrow (Lauren), Stephen Morrow (Celine), Christopher Koyl (Mary Frances) , Tyler Koyl (Barbara), Bradley Koyl (Fiona), 3 great-grandsons and 3 great-granddaughters. Her husband, Donald H. Koyl and her sisters, Mary Moodycliffe and Nora Prance, predeceased her. Doris was born on September 24th, 1914 in Blackpool England. She emigrated to Canada with her parents to settle in a sod hut on a farm outside of Swift Current, SK at the age of 2. After the death of her mother when Doris was 14, she stayed home to raise her 3 younger sisters before going on to complete, her education at Balfour Technical College in Regina. She moved to Saskatoon to work for Industrial Acceptance, where she met Don, a local real estate businessman. Don joined the Air Force and was stationed at Charlottetown, PEI. They were married in Charlottetown on September 27, 1941. During the war years they lived in Charlottetown, Dartmouth and Sydney. After the war they returned to make Saskatoon their home. Doris was a staunch supporter of the City of Saskatoon, a member of the Brigadier Potts chapter of the IODE, a member of Nutana Curling Club, a member of the Mendel Art Gallery auxiliary, a lifetime member of Riverside Country Club, a Hilltop fan, a University of Saskatchewan campus walker, a cottager, a gracious hostess, a gardener, a bridge player, a lady with a sense of humor who loved to tell golf jokes, recite poems, nursery rhymes and skipping chants remembered from her youth. After Don died in 1999, she moved to Riverside Terrace where she lived a full and happy life watching over her family and friends. A loyal friend, who will be sadly missed by all whom she mentored and befriended over her lifetime. Funeral

A Private Family interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
