Obituary of Hazel Dawson

Hazel Dawson Hazel passed away in the early morning of March 28, 2017 at the age of 99. Hazel Joyce Dawson (nee Mattison) was born at Bering Sk. on January 7, 1918. When she was one year old, she went to England with her mother and one brother Harold. When Hazel was nine years old she returned to Melaval, Sk. with her mother, and brothers Harold and Douglas to be with their dad who was an elevator agent. At the age of twelve, she moved to Rabbit Lake, Sk. with her father, mother and two brothers. In 1939-1940 she went to Teacher’s College and in 1941 she married John Edward Dawson where they farmed in the Meeting Lake District until John retired from farming in 1974. Hazel and John moved to Saskatoon and resided at 51 Davidson Crescent. Hazel taught piano at home and school at Rabbit Lake, Pleasantsite, Athelston and Willowspring. To Hazel and John were born two daughters; in October 1946, Judy Beverley (Ron Schnitzler) and in November 1948, Joyce Elaine (Dale Smith). She also has five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Funeral

A Celebration of Hazel’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home with Deacon Bill Schnitzler as celebrant. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
