Obituary of Albert Hamilton

Albert Roy Hamilton Albert Roy Hamilton passed away April 4, 2017 after a brief illness in St. Paul’s hospital Saskatoon at the age of 75. He was born July 30, 1941 to Frank & Lena Hamilton in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan. Roy was predeceased by his parents, wife Sharon, son Terry, and brothers Donald and Gordon. He is survived by his son Tyler (Rose), his daughters Charlene (Mike) and Wanda, brothers Robert and Victor, sisters Irene, Iris, Gladys, Clara, Fern, Dorothy and Patricia, as well as numerous grandchildren. Roy grew up in the Weekes, Saskatchewan area and fondly recalled the days helping his father with the horses and other animals on the farm. Around the age of 16, he went to work for the Wheat Pool building the elevators that have become symbolic on the Saskatchewan landscape. “You had to pound a keg of nails a day if you were going to make it… you had to be tough.” Not one to stay still, he then headed for the oilfields of Drayton Valley, Alberta and chased those rigs right back to Saskatchewan where he had a hand in sinking the original shafts for the potash mines in the Lanigan area. His calling however was carpentry and that was his true passion. He worked in the Saskatoon area for years as a general contractor and later in Kamloops where he would retire. He returned to Saskatchewan in his later years and he, along with his beloved dog Happy, became a common site in the towns of Young and Biggar. He spent his summers gardening and his winters building with Happy always at his side.
