Obituary of Josephine Karras

Josephine Caroline Karras November 11, 1923 – April 26, 2017 It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother, Josephine (Jo) Caroline Karras (Nestmann), surrounded by her family, at St. Paul’s Hospital April 26, 2017. Jo was born in Wilke SK and raised on a farm south of Leipzig SK. In 1939 she moved to Saskatoon to work; a mere five years later (1944) she relocated to Rocanville, where she met and married Alfred (Fred) Karras, on June 10, 1946. In the early 70’s Jo chose to go to work in Moosomin, first at Blanche’s Grill and then at The Pioneer Lodge, until her retirement in 1987. Jo enjoyed gardening, playing cards, bingo and family; nothing made her happier than visits from her grandchildren. Jo and Fred farmed at Rocanville, until the early 90’s when they moved to Nipawin to retire. In 2001 Fred’s health failed and the decision was made to move to Saskatoon. Jo moved to Scott Forget Towers in 2002 where she remained until late 2015 when she moved to Arbor Villa Care Home. Jo was predeceased by her husband Fred and siblings Mildred, Theresa, Christina, Henry (Hank), Andrew (Andy), and Robert (Bob). She is survived by three sons, Bruce (Beverley), Norman (Marjorie), Dennis (Joy) and one daughter, Carol (Francis) Duclaux, ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, two sisters Lucy Bachiu, and Joyce Halverson, and one sister-in-law Diana Nestmann.
