Thelma Stevens

Obituary of Thelma Stevens

Thelma Elizabeth (Anderson) Stevens was a soft spoken gentle woman with a sense of humour and joy for life. She was the loving partner of Rev Wendell Stevens for 65 years and together they ministered to many United Church congregations throughout their careers. She was particularly proud of her children and grandchildren. She was quietly spiritual and brought this into her nursing and volunteer careers. She was a nursing graduate of Saskatoon City Hospital in 1951. She nursed, in the various communities where she lived, for 40 years. Thelma had a beautiful soprano voice which she shared in every community as a choir member and director. She was very proud of her youth choirs particularly at St Paul's United Church, the TnT’s and the Grace Notes at Grace Westminster United Church both in Saskatoon. She was also involved with CGIT throughout her life. She led groups and was a member of provincial and national committees of CGIT for 35 years. She directed many camps in Saskatchewan and one National camp. She also took young people on travel camps. Thelma shared her faith in every aspect of her life. Thelma was always very meticulous and detailed in all she did. She has left a legacy of scrapbooked photo albums for her family. She was also proud to write her memoirs called “Shoes For My Journey”. This is a collection of short stories about her life that she has shared with her family and children. Thelma passed away on June 29, 2017. Thelma was predeceased by her husband Wendell in January 2017, son, John Stevens, and grandson Joshua Steinke. She is also predeceased by her brother Robert Anderson, brothers and sisters in law, Joyce and Rex Bird, Syd and Lillian Stevens.
