Obituary of Gerard Lahey

Gerard Lahey 1931-2017 Gerard Francis Lahey passed away peacefully with family by his side on August 5,2017 at Sherbrooke care facility. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Zoila, daughter Carol (John) Lahey-Wiggs, grandson Michael Lahey-Wiggs, sister Evelyn Fulton of BC, brother Terry Lahey of Toronto and many more family and friends. He was pre-deceased by his mother Adelaide (née Brochu) and father Thomas Lahey as well as 8 siblings. Gerard was born in Madoc, Ontario August 16, 1931. He lived on the family farm which began his love of the outdoors and nature. He attended a one room schoolhouse with most of his siblings and neighboring children. He eventually attended Haileybury School of Mines. He worked in the mining industry, chiefly as a mine Safety engineer in Ontario, the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Newfoundland, Saskatchewan, Peru and Mexico. He retired early to help his wife run a private Homecare facility for clients with mental health issues. Gerard was an active member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Mary's Parish and later at St. Anne’s Parish. He held many positions within this group. He also was a leader with Saskatoon Shines shuffleboard club and was very involved with volunteering for church and nonprofit organizations. Gerard's favorite hobbies included gardening, birding, watching hockey and spending time with his family, especially his grandson Michael. He instilled in his daughter and grandson a love of nature and the outdoors and taught them to respect and value all living things. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word.Flowers can be directed to St. Anne’s Parish for the service. Memorial donations may be directed to Alzheimers Society of SK or Nature Conservancy of Canada.

Funeral

Prayer services for Gerard will take place on Thursday, August 10,2017 at 7:00 p.m. Memorial services will be on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Both services will be held at St. Anne’s Parish, 217 Lenore Drive.
