Obituary of Ethel Fair

Ethel Loretta Fair June 16, 1935 - September 12, 2017 Ethel Loretta Fair passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on September 12, 2017 with her loving husband by her side. Ethel was born in Nipawin, SK, on June 16, 1935 to Ida and Fred Gillert, the 9th of ten children. She grew up in Nipawin and surrounding area, including Garrick and White Fox. It was in Nipawin where she began her first job in 1954 at Sears in the order office. This lead to other positions in retail stores including Robinson’s, Eaton’s, and again back at Sears in Nipawin, SK, where we believe her love for fashion was born. On August 27, 1956 Ethel married Robert Roy Fair of Saskatoon. They resided in Saskatoon, Regina, Nipawin and in 2006 returned to Saskatoon. Together they raised three children Bruce, Bradley and Barbara. Ethel comes from a family of generous, caring, hardworking individuals who have always put family above all else, something Ethel continued to instill in her own family. Fond memories include Ethel and her siblings sharing their love of music, each singing and playing their instruments, serenading family and friends for hours at a time. Ethel loved to dance and her and Bob enjoyed a Waltz or Polka whether at a special occasion or the middle of the kitchen floor during Polkarama. Ethel also enjoyed cooking which was evident in her blueberry pies, rice pudding, vegetable soup and most famously her cabbage rolls. Ethel will be lovingly remembered for her compassion, spunky outgoing personality, great sense of humor, playing the piano, passion for fashion always taking pride in how she presented herself, and ensuring to complement others on the same. Ethel’s smile would light up a room, her laughter was contagious and she always had that twinkle in her eye. Those who had the chance to know her are grateful for the time we were able to share with her. The kindness she shared and inspried in her family and for all the great memories she helped create along her journey. She will always be cherished. Ethel is survived by her loving husband Robert (Bob) Fair, children; Bruce (Cindy) Fair, Brad (France) Fair and Barb (Don) McLachlan, grandchildren; Alana Fair, Tamra Fair (Max), Dedrick (Heidi) McLachlan, Desiree McLachlan (Travis) and great granddaughter Kaebri McLachlan, sisters Ella Lisk and Sylvia (Don) Holloway, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Ethel was predeceased by her parents Ida and Fred, sisters Orla, Doris, Merceda, Edna; brothers Norman, Waldo, Lawrence; brothers-in-law Ken, Stan, Herb, Andy, Milt, Kyle, sister-in-law; Florence. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations may be made to Samaritan Place, 375 Cornish Road, Saskatoon, SK, S7T 0P3. “The loss is immeasurable but so is the love left behind”
